We are poets who come from generations of not only forced silence, but forced illegibility. We are a miracle within so many other miracles, both from a system that brought us not consequently, but coincidentally here.

We may not have experienced alcoholism, but we are allowed to smell the same odors, hear the cacophony of a bar and call out to the speaker’s hope. This collection taught me that poetry is never about the reader, but is ultimately an act of generosity.
